The number of registrations in the new domain .TOP has reached 1,000,469 last Saturday night. This was reported by DomainIncite. Thus, .TOP has become the second among all gTLDs that has reached a milestone of 1 million registrations. Earlier on this summit was conquered by the .XYZ domain.
Domain .TOP is managed by a Chinese registry Jiangsu Bangning Science & Technology Co and despite its English-language name attracts mostly Chinese users. According to the latest report of the administrator firm, 90% of the registrations in the domain zone were made by Chinese registrars. The reason for the rapid growth of .TOP – there were 453,833 names added in the last three month – analysts consider it a “domain fever” that took over China in the last months. Another reason of success are extremely low registration prices. For example, registration of a name in .TOP costs only 4 CNY, which is about 0.6 USD, in one of the largest Chinese registrars West.cn.
