ICANN reported signing a contract with the Italian law firm MFSD Srl. MFSD was founded in 2001 and is one the most respectable institutions in Italy that handles domain name disputes and issues of copyright and intellectual property. According to the signed agreement, MFSD is the first European institution that is appointed to dispute resolution procedure within Uniform Rapid Suspension (URS). Earlier on such appointed institutions have begun to operate in Asia and North America.
URS procedure is different from Uniform Domain-Name-Dispute-Resolution (UDRP), because it’s easier. Moreover, it allows registered trademark owners to block domain names that are suspected in violating intellectual property rights a lot faster and less expensive. It’s the URS that ICANN considers to be the main instrument to handle domain disputes in new gTLDs.
