British domains will rise in price

Nominet registry that manages Great Britain’s national domain .UK is willing to increase domain name registration price by 50% in March next year. According to Domain Incite, this news hasn’t fueled many concerns among British domain investors, even though there were some who were definitely unhappy. Thus, Andrew Bennett, the head of domain registrar Netistrar, has created a special webpage to collect signatures and demand to cancel the price increase. However, in four days that Bennett’s petition has been online it was signed by less than 150 people, this is why it seems unreasonable to talk about a serious public outcry.

In all fairness it should be noted that the prices for registration in .UK are one of the lowest in comparison with the majority of top-level generic domains. At the moment Nominet’s price for an annual registration in .UK is 3.5 GBP; the price for a registration for several years is 2.5 BGP. Moreover, the registration prices haven’t changed since 1999.
