Many gTLD registries reports the boom of registration for recent several weeks. Verisign has added an unprecedented 4.1 million domain in .COM and .NET so far during the fourth quarter. According to its statistics, there were 123,497,852 names in the .COM yesterday.
However, according to Domain Incite, Verisign warns both shareholders and all domain investors about redundant optimism. "While there continues to be demand for domain names globally, the recent increased volume for Verisign’s TLDs is coming largely through registrars in China, - the company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission. Verisign emphasizes that the demand for domain names is caused by set of social, economic and regulatory conditions. However, China's government initiatives play special role for digital economy development of the country, traditional popularity of the domain names consisting of digital symbols, growing competition between Chinese registrars, and high capital market volatility in China.
Verisign's representatives point out that the percentage of registration renewals during such booms, as a rule, appears to be below the rates, ordinary for a stable market situation.
