Booking.com has won the fight for .HOTELS

ICANN reported on its official website that the auction which decided the  destiny of new .HOTELS and .HOTEIS gTLDs took place on the 18th of November. These domain names were previously recognized too similar in writing to exist in the global network together. (The word "hoteis" means, actually, the same, as "hotels" but in the Portuguese language).

A company applied for each domain, that's why the delegation was offered for the one which would be paid the largest sum for. Booking.com offered $2,2 million for .HOTELS. This sum happened to be too high for Despegar Online SRL applying for the .HOTEIS. The proceeds will go to the special ICANN's fund where the income from the auctions of new domains accumulates. The decision on use of these means is to be made by ICANN's Board of Directors.
