Interesting data on celebrities and domain names

Fan Domains Limited analysts has carried out an interesting research. They analysed the use of own celebrities' names as domain names. This is not an idle interest for the company because it is a registry of the new .FANS gTLD addressed, how it is easy to understand, to any celebrities' fans, first of all.

According to its blog, top music artists pay special attention to their names in the domain space. 66% of them have the domains consisting of their first and last names, registered in the .COM, .NET and .ORG zones. Compare this to just 16% of top actors and actresses.

They show a strange indifference to the domain industry, in general. For example, 15% of domain names consisting of a performer's first and last names are registered not by actors themselves, but the third parties and fans (that is more often). 25% of FirstLast.com names of the top 100 actors and actresses are listed for sale.

As for athletes, there is an amusing regularity. Players of individual sports (e.g. tennis) are more likely to have their own website matching their names than players of team sports (e.g. football). Of the top 100 highest paid athletes, 78% in individual sports had their name while just 29% of team sports players did.
