Last Saturday, a record number of domain names were registered, according to the resource The Domains. Citing data from registries, The Domains wrote that over 460,000 domain names were registered across all Top Level Domains (gTLD) last Saturday worldwide, excluding national domains (ccTLD), many of which do not conduct daily statistics.
.COM had over 222,000 new registrations. The new domain .TOP ranked second with over 136,000 registrations. .NET, .XYZ and .REN picked up some 15,000 registrations each. Experts believe such rapid growth of registrations is due to feverish activity on the part of Chinese domain investors.
