New generic top-level domain .WANG has been showing a very rapid growth in the last days, reports The Domains. Only on October 18 the number of new registrations in the domain zone exceeded 90 thousand. Altogether from 17th till 20th of October more than 160 thousand new names were registered in the domain, which made the domain zone grow 1.5 times.
The reason, it seems, are significant discounts announced by Chinese registrars. During 3 days local users could register a name in .WANG for only 9 RMB (about $9) per year. It’s easy to see that the domain has for the most part been designed for Chinese users, it is administered by Chinese company Zodiac Holdings, the very word wang means “network” in Chinese.
The current breakthrough allowed .WANG to become the third among all new domains by the number of registrations; it is only behind .XYZ and .TOP. According to ntldstats.com, as of today there are more than 450 thousand names registered in the domain.
