The destiny of the new .CRUISE gTLD is settled. It was settled at private applicant auction which results traditionally remain closed, according to Domain Incite. However, judging by the fact that Cruise Lines International Association has already withdrawn its demand, Viking River Cruises, the only rival in fight for the domain, is likely to become a winner.
It is a large international company specializing in the organization of river cruises all over the world, including Russia. From this year Viking enters the ocean cruise market. Both applicants for the domain earlier planned to use it as closed, without any possibility of third-party registration. But after the ICANN's solution on refusal from closed generic domains, they were compelled to make changes to their applications at a present stage of the New Domain Program. Nevertheless, .CRUISE won't be available to everyone. With the comparison of, for instance, .TRAVEL, only representatives of the corresponding industry - from cruise companies and travel agencies to shipbuilders and experts in the organization of cruises - will be able to register names in it.
