ICANN and Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG) presented the results of their report: An Analysis of New gTLD Universal Acceptance. It is dedicated to Universal Acceptance of new gTLDs, first of all – the internationalized ones. The concept of Universal Acceptance means a possibility of a free access to any gTLD, regardless the devices and software used for it, as well as a character and number of signs in domain names.
According to ICANN's Chief Technology Officer David Conrad, the results of research meet expectations. At the same time, Conrad emphasized that it is necessary to make a lot of efforts for achievement of a goal. In particular, he reported that even largest companies not always cope with Universal Acceptance problems. The research showed that users of Internet Explorer and FireFox browsers, involving Adobe plug-ins, periodically experience difficulties with access to internationalized domains. ICANN and UASG's representatives have already applied to Microsoft, Mozilla and Adobe with a request to identify the reasons of problems and to take measures for eliminating them.
UASG CEO Ram Mohan told that the number of problems found by research were more, than it was expected.
