Architelos stands up for new domains

As it was previously reported, Blue Coat Systems proposed an idea of close inspection and full blocking of a number of new gTLDs if it is necessary. According to its data, more than 95% domains in some new domain zones are used for illegal activity – spamming and malware, organization of phishing and DDoS-attacks, etc. At the first sight, observers accepted Blue Coat Systems data with a fair amount of skepticism. They are likely to be right.

According to Domain Incite, Architelos, known for NameSentry service, has published information on the same issue. The service uses Name Quality Index (NQI) for determining of "shadiness" degree in domain zones. According to Architelos, about 6900 domains – practically every tenth – are noticed in illegal activity in new .WORK zone, for example. It is certainly a very high figure. However, it gives slightly less than 10% of harmful domains from their total number. According to Blue Coat, such domains in .WORK reaches 98,2%. .SCIENCE has the same differences. Architelos estimates percent of malicious names in this zone at 4,8%. Blue Coat does it in 99,35%. Experts assume that the Architelos estimates look much more corresponding to a true situation.
