On September 1 new generic top-level domain .SEX has entered a Sunrise phase, reports portal the Domains. During this phase any company with a trademark in the Trademark Clearinghouse can register a domain that is the same as its name. Sunrise will last until October 1, after that the domain zone will enter Sunrise B period. At that stage, owners of domains in .XXX that is administered by ICM Registry as .SEX does will have a pre-emption right to register domain names. They will be able to register the same names in .SEX as they have in .XXX. And finally from November 4 .SEX domain enters a general availability phase when anyone can register a name in the domain zone.
Representatives of ICM Registry expect high activity during the Sunrise phase and have good reasons for this. It were the “adult” domains .PORN and .ADULT (that also belong to ICM) that managed to set records in the number of registrations during the Sunrise phase among all new gTLDs – 3995 and 3902 names respectively.
