Domain analysts continue to vividly discuss Google's activity connected to registration of domains containing a combination of letters ABC in the name. As previously reported, Google creates new holding Alphabet, part of which will be also a search giant itself. The abc.xyz was registered for the corporate holding website. The combination of ABC is practically a synonym of the words "alphabet" or "hornbook" in English, and, therefore, Google's choice is quite understandable.
According to the The Domains, the corporation makes serious efforts to make ABC a synonym not only for these words, but also for the name of new holding. For past few days Google has bought several dozens names containing ABC in the name, including, for example, ABC.club. However, this activity can lead to a very serious confusion. The matter is in the fact that an application for new .ABC gTLD was filed to ICANN long time ago and it was even approved. It was filed not by Google at all, but by Disney which possesses the ABC Network. On the ICANN's website the status of the domain is designated as "in the process of contract registration". It means that the domain, maybe not in the next few days, but sooner or later will be for certain delegated and will start working.
Disney plans to use the domain name as a private, without possibility of third-party registration. However, nobody can forbid to register here, for example, the xyz.abc name - "mirror image" of the new corporate Google domain. In general, any name in this domain can inevitably be associated by users with Google, making serious problems for both companies. Famous domain blogger Michael Berkens ironically points out in this regard that the way for Google to avoid confusion consists now in purchasing Disney.
