.ONLINE targets 25,000 names for its first day

Radix Registry shares its expectations of the start of bonus registration in new .ONLINE gTLD which opens today, on August 19. The press release published the day before quotes Radix business head Sandeep Ramchandani: "We are confident .ONLINE will be amongst the biggest new gTLDs that have launched. We reckon at least on 15,000 names in the first day of bonus registration, but we hope that we will be able to break a record of the .CLUB".

The .CLUB, launched in 2014, collected more than 25.000 names during the first 10 hours. Radix expectations are based on two factors. The first one is a great interest to. ONLINE from companies registrars. The second factor is the results of the Sunrise period. 775 names were registered in the .ONLINE during this period. The figure can seem not impressive, however it is one of the highest rates for new domains. Only in three very specific domains - .PORN, .ADULT, and .SUCKS were registered more than 1,000 names during the Sunrise period. The Sunrise period brought only 454 registration in the .GURU, for example.

However, Radix Registry is simply obliged to show optimism concerning the new domain if to consider how expensive it was for it. The company acquired the rights on the .ONLINE, having won at the closed auction of applicants. The exact sum paid for the domain is kept in secret, however it is known that Radix had to get  Tucows and NameCheap financial support for a victory, and analysts are sure that it was necessary to pay not less than 7, and, perhaps, more than $10,000,000 for the domain.
