Football is not cheap now

GoDaddy Inc., the world's largest domain registrar, confirmed the sale of the previously owned futbol.com. In April this year GoDaddy bought a domain portfolio of Marchex bonus names, which decided to stop working in the domain market. The amount of transaction was $28,1 Million. The purchase seems to have been very beneficial. For example, Beijing.com which has been already sold to GoDaddy according to unofficial figures for $6-7 Million was included in the portfolio.

Futbol.com is one more domain from the Marchex portfolio. GoDaddy doesn’t disclose neither an amount of transaction, nor a buyer’s name. The word “futbol” means "football" in Spanish, but it is perfectly clear also to users in many other languages. Considering the popularity of "sport number 1" and general interest caused by investigation of corruption activity in FIFA it is easy to understand that the cost of futbol.com can even exceed Beijing.com one. After all, "only" 21 million people live in the capital of China, and broadcasts of top football matches collect much more large audience at TV screens.
