Another new gTLD put up for auction

The German Dotversicherung GMBH registry declared offering the new .VERSICHERUNG gTLD operated by it at auction. The word “Versicherung” is translated from German as "insurance", and the domain is respectively addressed to market players of insurance services in Germany and Austria. It launched 10 months ago; more than 3 thousand names have been registered during this time. The winner of auction will also receive a portfolio consisting of 10 thousand bonus names reserved in. VERSICHERUNG for registry needs. Auction will take place on August 26, the upset price is $750000. The reasons, which led Dotversicherung GMBH registry to put the domain up for auction, remain unknown.

It is worthwhile to say that change of new gTLD owners isn't a unique event. According to Domain Incite estimates, such fate has already befallen over 80 domains since the end of 2013. However in the great majority of cases it is about private transactions between the large companies or about domain transfers under the jurisdiction of other division in the same company or subsidiaries. As for auctions, the precedent with new .REISE gTLD is known, been sold at auction at the end of February this year. By a curious coincidence, the domain is also addressed to German-speaking users – the word “Reise” is translated from German as "travel". The Donuts Inc. became the winner of auction, and the upset price for the domain was $400000.
