7 New gTLDs were delegated – .STUDIO, .LIVE, .JPRS, .GAME, .BCN, .BARCELONA, and .AIRTEL. The event could be considered quite ordinary by the last time standards, but for a circumstance. The number of gTLDs exceeded a significant boundary of 1000, reaching to 1002. According to Domain Incite, 8 domains are the "original" gTLDs created in the 1980s, 15 are gTLDs delegated by ICANN in earlier rounds, 286 are ccTLDs, and, finally, 693 are new gTLDs from the 2012 application round.
The vast majority of the TLDs are in Latin script. The number of internationalized domain names is only 91 (there are partly ccTLDs and New gTLDs). There is one more curious figure. The current round of New gTLD program started 624 days ago. Considering that 693 domains have been delegated in the meantime, it is easy to count the root’s been growing by an average of 1.1 TLDs per day since 2012.
