Architelos published a State of Abuse report for May, 2015. The document fixes a situation with use of domain names in unseemly purposes. Extra attention is paid to New gTLDs. Indeed, during May New gTLDs were used for a phishing 143 times. Thus, this equates to 24 phishing reports per million registered names in New gTLDs.
The .XYZ TLD, which is in the lead in registration number among New gTLDs, is on the first place on this characteristic. But .SCIENCE domain, in which almost a third of all registered spam mailouts from New gTLDs was accounted (total number of such mailouts equates to 22380), has a strong lead in spamming. Supervisors explain it with two circumstances. Firstly, popular scientific information is in general public’s demand, and therefore a probability the message from "scientific" domain will reach the object is certainly higher. Secondly, .science domain falls actively back on free names distribution that, naturally, attracts the users pursuing unseemly aims. However, the latter explanation is also fully applies to the .XYZ domain.
