VeriSign, Inc., managing the.COM and .NET generic top level domains and providing support of two root DNS servers, presented its traditional Domain Name Industry Brief. It generalizes information for the first quarter of this year. A number of domain names registered in all generic TLDs reached 294 million as of March 31, 2015. In comparison with the fourth quarter of 2014, the increase has amounted to 6 million or 1.9% in relative terms.
Thus, with very high degree of probability it is possible to say that currently a number of domain names in the world has already reached 300 million, or is coming nearer to this mark. The .COM domain remains an undisputable and absolute leader: there are 117,9 registered domain names as of March 31, 2015. The total number of names in Verisign .COM and .NET domains amounted to 133 million – 3,1% more, than in the first quarter of 2014.
