The US Supreme Court decision, which has recognized the legalization of same-sex marriages countrywide, has been in the headlines day after day causing the members’ reaction from all social life spheres. The domain industry did not stay on the sidelines. The Afilias company, which acts as registry for new .lgbt domain addressed to a homosexual society, said the promotion of this decision. So, Afilias will support it not only in words but also in deeds. The company announced the beginning of initiative, in terms of which $20 from fee for every name registered in .LGBT domain will be transferred to the It Gets Better Project. This non-profit aims to support homosexuals in their teenage years when they have particularly difficulties.
The campaign will last until 11 October. End date was not picked incidentally, as this day is known as National Coming Out Day in the US (term Coming Out means man’s open homosexuality acknowledgment). The cost of annual .LGBT domain registration ranges from $45 to $60. According to ntldstats.com, there are currently 1220 registered names in the domain extension.
