British registry saved more than £7 million for its clients

British nonprofit organization Nominet, that is .UK’s registry, has published a report on resolving domain name disputes last year. In the .UK domain there is a special procedure called Dispute Resolution Service (DRS) similar to Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP). The procedure was established way back in 2001. In 2014 a ten thousandth case was resolved.

The report states that the number of complaints under DRS procedure has increased. There were 726 of such cases last year, 8% more that the year before. At the same time in 51% of all cases the parties managed to find an agreement with the help of Nominet mediators without arbitrators and full proceedings. Altogether complainants managed to prove their positions and gain control over disputed domains in 55% of all cases.

Nominet estimated how much this could have cost in British courts. Considering minimum costs in such a case from both sides the registry found that in a year it had saved more than £7.5 million in avoided legal costs.
