New domain .BERLIN that for a long time was lead by the number of registrations among all new gTLDs got through several very unpleasant days. The domain was launched in the beginning of June last year and because of the promo campaign under which the names were given away for free managed to attract a significant number of registrants. As of June 10, there were 151295 names registered in the domain.
However, then the time for registration renewal came. It turned out that the vast majority of those who registered the names for free, have done in “just in case”. However, one of the rules of the registry is that the domain name has to be put to use during 12 months after the registration. Obviously this didn’t happen and as of June 12 the number of registrations in .BERLIN have decreased by almost 70 thousand names, and now amounts to only 82481.
