It’s been a year since the new domain .XYZ entered general availability. From the beginning his plans seemed quite ambitious. It should be acknowledged that most of them were brought to life. For its first birthday domain .XYZ is the undisputed leader among all new gTLDs. As of today it has 955178 registered names. It is followed by a Chinese domains .网址 – 347481 registrations (according to ntldstats.com).
However, it is well known that a significant portion of names in .XYZ (according to some estimates up to a third) was given away for free to the owners of similar names in .COM. This makes it especially interesting to watch what will happen with .XYZ in the near future. The time to renew registrations has come and the next few months will finally allow to evaluate more or less objectively the success of the domain and user interest in it.
