ICM Registry, operator of .PORN and .ADULT domain zones, reported the results of Sunrise phase. A little less than 8 thousand names were registered in two “adult” domains – 3995 in .PORN and 3902 in .ADULT. This is a record result for a Sunrise period for all new gTLDs, the previous record was set by .LONDON – a bit more than 800 registrations.
Is should be noted that Sunrise period for .PORN and .ADULT was divided into two stages. During the first one only trademark owners who are listed in the Trademark Clearinghouse database were able to register domain names. This stage ended on April 1. After that a so-called Sunrise-B stage started and lasted for a month. During this stage owners of .XXX blocks were able to register names in .PORN and .ADULT. Domain .XXX is also operated by ICM Registry.
It is also interesting that even though “adult domains” have set a new record for Sunrise period, they still lag behind their “older brother” .XXX. When the domain was launched in 2011, around 80 thousand names were registered during Sunrise.
