Verisign, operator of .COM domain zone, summed up the results of the first stage of its #InternetOfficial contest, dedicated to the 30-year anniversary of the oldest and the most popular generic top-level domain. Every month contest’s jury that is comprised of respectable domain industry figures, representatives of Internet business and popular media figures, chooses five of the most spectacular, memorable and informative domains registered in .COM this month. Registrants that win get $5000 each and will compete for the big prize of $30 thousand in the final stage of the competition.
Yesterday the first five winners were announced in the Verisign blog. Everyone can decide whether they consider them spectacular and informative enough. So, the winners of the first stage of the competition are: chooseyourtattoo.com, electricmotorcycleclub.com, perfecthairstylist.com, SecretSnitch.com and StressDetector.com.
The contest will run until the end of April, however, only US citizens can participate. The winner of the grand prize will be announced in the end of June this year.
Marina Nikerova, senior deputy director at Technical Center of Internet believes that the Verisign campaign helps the domain development: «Domain zone .COM is one of the oldest and the most popular domain zones in the world. At the moment more than 115 million names are registered there, which exceeds the number of names registered in all European national zones altogether. At the same time zone’s operator has to maintain interest and the image of leader, especially since numerous new domains have launched recently. The competition they are conducting allows to achieve this goal – due to the extensive coverage among existing and potential clients there will be an additional opportunity to remember it.”
