Verisign, operator of .COM and .NET domain zones, presented financial results for the first quarter of 1015. During the first three months of the year 1.51 million new domain names were registered in the domain operated by Verisign. Their total number has reached 133 million, it represents a 3.1% increase in comparison to the same period last year (the results include inactive domains as well). Registration renewal rate in .COM and .NET domains was 72.5% in the forth quarter of 2014 (the data for the first quarter of this year will be available only in 45 days after the end of the reporting period).
Verisign total revenues in the first quarter were $258 million. This is 3.9% more than a year before. At the same time net income of the company has decreased, Verisign reported net income of $88 million. Net income by the end of the first quarter in 2015 was $94 million. Based on the financial results for the first quarter Verisign management has reduced its guidance for this year. Over the year the company expects a 2.5-3% domain growth rate and projected revenue of $1.43-1.57 billion.
