Registry of the French ccTLD .FR AFNIC published its annual report on the state of domain market. It is based on the data published by ICANN corporation and Verisign. The study presents the mail tendencies of the domain industry. AFNIC experts in particular point out the slowdown in growth rates of the domain market. In 2014 the total number of registered domain names increased by 17.9 million internationally, which accounted for 6.5% of the net growth. The year before net growth was 7.3%.
Growth rates of .COM domain were lower than 5% last year. The growth in ccTLDs was 8.5%. The “old” generic top-level domains (excluding .COM) lost the most, they demonstrated a decline of 3% on average.
Interestingly enough, registrations in new gTLDs accounted for 21% of last year’s growth. However, in the conditions of general decline in the growth rates this inevitably means that new domains take away market share from the existing ones.
