The new gTLD program has reached another milestone. According to nTLDstats.com as of yesterday, more than 5 million names have been registered in the new gTLDs. The exact number of registrations is 5 037 000.
Domain .XYZ is the leader with 875 thousand registrations or 17.32% from the total number. It is followed by domain .网址 (which means “website” in Chinese) with 349 226 registrations. However, it is well known that a significant part of names in .XYZ domain was given away for free as a promotion. The majority of names in the Chinese domain were registered by one organization – Internet Domain Name System Beijing Engineering Research Center LLC. In this sense the most “clean” is success of .CLUB, which hold the third place. 206 thousand names are registered there and all of them, as Donuts registry assures, are fully paid registrations.
Donuts registry is an undisputed leader among registries. It operates 173 new gTLDs and 1.354 million names are registered in them (26.81% of the total number of registrations in new domains). It is followed by CentralNic - 973 800 names in 21 new domain zones. In seven new domains the number of registrations exceeds 100 thousand, in 94 – 10 thousand and in 163 – 5 thousand.
Unfortunately, not all new domains can boast about their success. 34 new domain zones that are already in general availability have less than 1000 registrations. The worst results are demonstrated by .WHOSWHO and .RICH - 31 and 66 registrations respectively.
