.ORG «slows down» globally, but boosts in Asia

Public Interest Registry, operator of .ORG domain zone, published report on the state of affairs in 2014. The document states the continuing downward trend in the growth of the number of registrations in the domain zone. In 2011 the increase in domains was 9,9%, it dropped in 2012 to 4,3%, and in 2013 only 2,6%. Last year it decreased to 1,3%.

The trend could partly be explained by the launch of the new gTLDs, however, this is not the only reason. Interestingly enough the new domains didn’t stop .ORG domain zone from showing a relatively serious growth in Asia-Pacific. In 2014 1.37 million domains were registered there – 16% more than a year before.

The leader by the number of registered names in the .ORG domain zone, however, is still the US: the country accounts for 56.4% of all registrations. It is followed by Germany – 4.8%, the UK – 4.2%, Canada – 3.8% and France - 3.2%. The total number of names registered in the .ORG domain zone as of December 2014 is 10 500 913.
