Englishman Neil Moore suspected in cyber fraud proved that he is a high-class expert in the field. Using Internet technologies he managed to escape from the detention center in the famous London prison Wandsworth.
To do that 28-year-old Moore used a cell phone that he managed to smuggle into the prison. He connected to the Internet and registered a hmcts-gsi-gov.org.uk domain. This name is confusingly similar to a domain name of a London Southwark Court - hmcts.gsi.gov.uk. This court hears Moore’s case. In the Whois registration form he put the name of his investigator as contact name and the address of Royal Courts of Justice as the address. After that, using the email registered with the domain Moore sent the instructions for his bail. The instructions were followed by the Wandsworth administration (which hasn’t even checked the Whois data).
«Disappearance» of the defendant was discovered only three days later by Moore’s own lawyers that came to prison to visit him. Probably they managed to contact him and explain the unreasonableness of his act. Anyways, several hours later Neil Moore voluntarily came back to jail.
Moore is accused of cyber fraud using Internet technologies and social engineering. Posing as representative of large British banks, according to the prosecution he received about GBP 1.8 million from several respected companies. He will be sentenced in April.
