Renewal rate in the Donuts new gTLDs is lower than 70%

Donuts keeps on publishing the data on registration renewal rate in its new gTLDs. According to the data published yesterday, the renewal rate fell lower than 70% for the first time and amounts to 68.4% now. The worst results are demonstrated by .GURU domain that is the first actually generic (not niche) domain that was launched. It reached the highest number of registrations on February 28, when more than 80 thousands names were registered. Since then the domain zone lost over 10 thousand names, the renewal rate for .GURU now is 63.4%. To compare, the renewal rate for Donuts’ most successful domains - .PHOTOGRAPHY and .CLOTHING – are 75,7% and 74,0% respectively.

However, according to Donuts COO Richard Tindal, there is no reason to be worried: this is a typical junk drop. Tindal believes that by the end of April renewal rate in the Donuts’ new domains will stabilize around 70% and in the future can grow up to 80%.
