As it was reported earlier, domain .SUCKS has entered Sunrise period. Only trademark owners from the Trademark Clearinghouse database can register names during this phase. Considering that the domain has strong negative connotations, many observers believed that the leading companies and brands will quickly register their names there so that no one else can.
Basically, this is what is happening. Instagram, WordPress, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Wal-Mart are among domain’s registrants. Such IT giants as Google, Apple and Microsoft registered gmail.sucks, siri.sucks and windowsphone.sucks respectively. This means that the companies are willing not only to protect their names but also the names of their leading brands.
Talking about celebrities, the “pioneer” is Kevin Spacey who registered kevinspacey.sucks in the new domain. Spacey is known for paying attention to how his name is used online. Way back in 2002 he won a cybersquatting complaint over kevinspacey.com, which is now used as his official website.
