Google sensationally lost a fight for a new generic top-level domain .TUBE. It became known yesterday that Google withdrew its application as well as the other contender left, who was considered one of the favorites - Donuts. Thus, the right to administer the domain quite unexpectedly was won by Latin American Telecom LLC (LTC), that already operates Mexico.com.
Considering that Google owns YouTube, its decision not to fight for .TUBE domain raises a lot of questions. Some experts, for instance, have reassured themselves that Google has lost all interest in the new domains. However, the recent win in the auction for the .APP domain (and especially the amount of money paid - $25 million) make it a bit hard to say unambiguously.
