Nominet is willing to allow the use of proxy when registering domains

Nominet, registry of the British ccTLD .UK, plans to introduce changes to the registration rules. It will provide wider opportunities to users that do not intend to publish their personal information. In particular, the company is willing to allow usage of proxy servers and other services that ensure privacy. (Previously Nominet considered these services to be the registrants and not the client that uses their services).

In accordance with planned changes registrars will provide Nominet with full information about registrants, but the registry will only publish their names and services’ data in Whois to provide confidentiality. Moreover, Nominet intends to facilitate the procedure of data removal from Whois. The changes affect individual registrants that do not use domains to store personal data of other people, direct advertisement or sale of goods and services. The new rules may come into force in the second half of this year.
