Users welcome the appearance of new domains

Non-profit organization Domain Name Association (DNA), that unites representatives of Internet registries, registrars, providers and other representatives of domain and Internet business, published results of its research. It focuses on relation of users to existing system of domains in general and expansion of domain space due to the emergence of new gTLDs in particular. 5 thousand users from 10 countries participated in the study.

Research results refuted the opinion of skeptics who claim that the majority of ordinary users are not interested in the domain system and its structure at all: when they search for information, they just type their requests in a search engine and follow the suggested links. As it turned out, this is not so: 85% of the respondents reported that they at least sometimes typed in the addresses in the address bar of the browser manually, that is why they are aware of the domain names and their structure. Moreover, the vast majority of the users, even after getting the results of their search, check the spelling of the links before following to see what domain they are forwarded to.

In relation to new gTLDs, almost 60% of the respondents were in favor of expansion of their number and choice possibilities. Users of the fastest growing Internet markets perceive appearance of the new domains particularly positively: 75% in India and 69% in China.
