Entrepreneur Rick Schwartz, famous for his successful buying and selling operations on the domain market has once again confirmed his unofficial title of the Domain King. It became known yesterday that he sold one of domain belonging to him - PORNO.COM. The deal amounted to $8888888. It is the biggest deal in the last 5 years and ranks as the 4th highest in history of domain business. The record belongs to SEX.COM that changed the owner in 2013 for $13 million.
Schwartz bought domain PORNO.COM in 1997 for $42 thousand from some student that purchased the domain for $5 thousand himself a week before and probably thought that he wrapped up an excellent deal. The example of Rick Schwartz proves the opposite. He didn’t just sell the domain for over $9 million. During all those years of possessing it, Schwartz didn’t even create any resource, only from advertising and parking according to his estimates he got around $10 million. Thus, by investing $42 thousand, he as a result made around $19 million. The buyer of PORNO.COM is a company registered in Prague for which it was obviously a field-specific investment - it already owns domains SWINGERS.COM and PORNOTV.COM. By the way, the entire amount for the domain was paid in cash.
