Mayor of New York is left without his own domain

Mayor of New York Bill de Blasio who earlier on was encouraging citizens of the biggest US city to register their names in the new city domain .NYC set a rather bad example for the citizens. According to caustic remarks of the critics, he «didn’t buy what he was selling», because he didn’t register his own domain. As it became known, domain BILLDEBLASIO.NYC was auctioned off at the minimum rate of $10. The only bidder was Thomas Anderson, who has nothing to do with the mayor or his team. According to Anderson, he is surprised himself that everything turned out this way, he expected that representatives of the City Hall, however, none of that has happened yet.

After the publication of this information on Crainsnewyork.com, members of de Blasio team hurried to make a statement. According to them, it was an unfortunate misunderstanding. The mayor was indeed interested in the registration of his domain and the corresponding application was submitted to the Neustar registry a long time ago. However, was not the only one. In this case the domain is automatically put up for auction. After that the employees of the City Hall simply got confused about the dates of the auctions.

The explanation sounds quite believable. It’s strange though that neither City Hall, nor the registry didn’t take advance measures that would not allow such things to happen at all, because these incidents taint the image of city authorities and domain. Also, it is interesting to point out that the former mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg was far more forethought. He was generous enough to pay $12 thousand for 400 domains in the .NYC domain zone that mention his name.
