Three new generic top-level domains found their owners in the first days of the new year. In all of the cases the domains were sold either on the closed private auctions or by agreements between the applicants. The amounts of money paid by the winners are never disclosed, however, the observers suggest that they might have been quite big: all three domains - .LOL, .WOW. and .PLUS – are considered sufficiently promising.
Interestingly enough, Google corporation was claiming all three domains. However, as a result it was left with nothing in all three cases. Uniregistry got the right to administer domain zone .LOL, Amazon got .WOW and Donuts won domain .PLUS.
