Lost parties at ICANN auction want to be compensated

Aesthetics Practitioners Advisory Network that applied for the new gTLD .SALON has written to ICANN management. This happened after the company lost at the ICANN auction for the domain. DaySmart Software, L’Oreal and Donuts were other contenders. The later won the right to administer the domain after the representative of Donuts paid more than $5 million for it.

In the letter Aesthetics Practitioners Advisory Network CEO Tina Viney points out that it would be fair for the contenders that lost to claim some part of the received amount as a compensation. She highlights that preparation of the application for the domain and participation in an auction requires significant financial and organizational costs. And it’s only fair for ICANN to agree and compensate part of these expenses from obtained means.

It should be recalled that the principle proposed by Viney is used in the private auctions of applicants. As for the ICANN auctions that are held when applicants for the new domains couldn’t manage to agree among themselves, raised money goes to a corporation’s special fund. The decision on how to spend raised funds is still pending.
