Radix secures new .SITE domain

Radix has secured the new .SITE gTLD, according to the company’s official Twitter account. While details have yet to be revealed, it appears that the domain was secured through a private contention set. The official ICANN auction had been scheduled for late November.

Radix was able to beat some of the domain market’s heavyweights, including Google, Donuts and Minds + Machines. It’s worth noting that Google had previously avoided participating in contention sets. If this marks a change in Google’s position, we should expect many more new TLDs contested without the involvement of ICANN, whose auctions of last resort have served to resolve the disputes between contenders.

In addition to .SITE, Radix owns the .WEBSITE domain and is in the contest for the .WEB TLD.
