A number of well-informed bloggers, citing anonymous sources within ICANN, reported last weekend that the corporation’s 52nd meeting in Morocco might be canceled or moved to a different country due to the Ebola outbreak, which has hit Africa the hardest.
The meeting was scheduled to take place in Marrakesh from February 8 to 12 next year. Earlier, Morocco requested to postpone the Africa Cup of Nations, which is to be held in the country, because of the Ebola threat.
Today, ICANN issued a statement on its official website that the ICANN board is considering postponing the meeting because the likelihood of travel restrictions being imposed on nationals from African countries would reduce participation in the meeting. However, a final decision has not yet been made.
