ICANN's branding and logo are using in phishing attacks

Dave Piscitello, ICANN Senior Security Technologist, in a blog post reported that the number of phishing attacks that use ICANN branding and logo has recently increased. The typical attack scenario: domain registrant receives an email allegedly from ICANN and states that registration has expired and offers to renew it. To do that the user is recommended to follow a link and enter bank card data to renew registration.

Corporation ICANN says that it has nothing to do with such emails. ICANN doesn’t register domain names and doesn't receive payments from registrants; all of this is done by a certain registrar. Such emails are fake and aim at stealing user financial information. Those who receive phishing emails should not under any circumstances follow any links or even more so give any information. All of these cases should be reported to ICANN Corporation that is actively investigating this scam. Report at - compliance@icann.org.
