Freenom will administer .GQ domain

Dutch registry Freenom has made a deal with GETESA, telecom provider of Equatorial Guinea. Under the agreement, national domain of this African state inhabited by approximately 700 thousand people is going to be administered by Freenom.

Thus, Freenom has added to its portfolio of ccTLDs. It also administers domains of Central African Republic .CF, Mali .ML, Gabon .GA. However, the company is mostly known as the administer of .TK, national domain of Tokelau Islands. Despite the fact that Tokelau’s population is only 1500 people, .TK domain is the second after .COM by the number of registrations of all top-level domains. There are more than 26 million names registered.

The reason of this popularity is free registration that domain .TK as well as other domains administered by Freenom offers. The same business model will be used in relation to .GQ. It is currently in Sunrise phase, General Availability phase is supposed to start December 1.
