Uniregistry has won the right to administer new gTLD .CARS at a closed auction of applicants. Details of the event haven’t been disclosed, however the very fact that Uniregistry got this right was confirmed by Uniregistry CEO Frank Schilling to Domain Incite.
Experts are rather reserved in their estimations of new domain’s prospects. They point out that something like a “traffic jam” can soon appear in the domain space. The thing is that apart from .CARS, domain .CAR is soon to be delegated. The only applicant for it is Google. Apart from that, in May another domain .AUTOS (DERCars registry) was delegated. And the very Uniregistry won at auction for domain .AUTO. Nobody can predict how four closely related domains will coexist on the domain market, especially since two pairs of them are almost identical.
