Michele Neylon, CEO of Irish registrar Blacknight, yesterday posted in his blog that 54th ICANN meeting will be held in Dublin the capital of Ireland in October of the following year. This news is surprising for various reasons.
First of all, most recently, in June of this year, 50th jubilee meeting of ICANN was held on the British Isles (in London to be precise). Secondly, Ireland to put it mildly is not one of the active members of the global domain community and doesn’t seem to seek this role. Aforementioned company Blacknight is the only Irish registrar accredited by ICANN, and the government of the country hasn't delegated its representative to the Governmental Advisory Committee (and was repeatedly criticized for that by Michele Neylon). Finally, it is interesting that ICANN has made up its mind about its 54th meeting, but a place for 53rd meeting remains uncertain yet.
