Public Interest Registry, registry operator of one of the first top-level domains .org, has summarized the results of the first six months of the year. For the first six months of this year the number of domains in .org zone has increased by 1.4 percent or 143512 registrations. Total number of registered domains as of today is 10428027. The report states that the domain continues to experience strong renewal rates. Almost 85 percent of registrants renew the registration of their domains in .org zone after their third year. After the first and the second year respectively this indicator is a bit more than 55% and 72.3%. The average percent of renewed registrations is 73.9.
Apart from the US, that traditionally leads in the number of registrations in .org domain zone, the UK, Canada, Australia and France are also among the top five countries. At the same time, Public Interest Registry is pleased to note a significant growth of domain’s popularity on the Asian market, mostly in China, Japan and India. Launch of the three new internationalized top-level domains, that are versions of .org (Chinese .机构, Devanagari .संगठन and Russian .орг), should assist in further promotion of the domain.
