Verisign published a report of the first quarter of 2014 in domain industry. The document describes a lot of interesting data. As of March 31, 2014 total number of registered domains (in all domain zones) was 276 million. In the first three months of the year 5 million names were added to the domain space.
These 5 million consisted of 3.6 million ccTLDs, in total there are 127 million names registered by the end of the first quarter. Domain .RU holds 8th place among all gTLDs, surpassing .info in the rating of the world largest zones.
Statistics of new TLDs presented in the report does not allow judging their popularity, because among 198 new domains delegated by March 31, 125 were delegated in the first quarter of 2014. There are other interesting data in the report. For instance, according to Verisign, every minute users of global network send 204 million emails.
