ICANN Board extends term of Fadi Chehadé

Board of Directors of ICANN has decided to extend term of corporation’s President Fadi Chehadé until June 30, 2017. "As we noted in the Board resolution, taking this action will help ensure the stability in leadership that is important for ICANN," said Board Chair Dr. Stephen Crocker. "It also shows the support and confidence that the Board has in Fadi."

Fadi Chehadé himself said that he was “both humbled and honored” by the trust placed in him. "I'm glad to be able to expend my energy and passion towards ICANN's noble mission and great public responsibility. With focus, diligence and hard work, we will continue to evolve ICANN into a mature, global organization", said he.

Along with the extension of President’s term, the Board has voted to raise his salary by 12,5%. In the Board’s resolution it is noted that this step was taken in accordance with the recommendations of Towers Watson experts that specialize in audit and evaluations of personnel effectiveness.

Andrei Kolesnikov, CEO at Coordination Center for TLD RU also highly evaluates Fadi Chehadé’s actions as ICANN’s President: “Fadi Chahadé has worked as the President of ICANN for almost two years now and these years were the time of significant changes in the global domain space. He has continued developing programs of new gTLDs and now we witness appearance of hundreds of new root domains. Moreover, Chehadé was able to respond to one of the most pressing requests of global domain community – separate ICANN from the government of the USA, a suggestion offered by many. And even though the path to create a truly independent organization has just begun, it is the right direction. So, we are going to wait further steps in this area from ICANN President.”
