German domain .DE, being one of the largest among ccTLDs (it is the second after domain of Tokelau .TK), prepares to celebrate reaching yet another record mark. According to the German registrar DENIC, as of July, 29 there were 15734742 registrations and there is every reason to believe that as soon as this Autumn domain will have 16 million registered names.
Domain .DE has reached a mark of 14 million in November 2010, 15 million – in April 2012. The average growth rate during its existence is a little less than 1 million names a year – a rather impressive indicator indeed.
Marina Nikerova, senior deputy director at Technical Center of Internet, explained why in her opinion German domain is developing so fast: “German national domain shows steady growth during the whole time of its existence. German legislation is what mainly contributes to it; it offers a simplified domain registration at the stage of establishing legal entity. Moreover, growth of the number of registered names is closely related to the economic situation and at the moment Germany is one of the most powerful economies in Europe.”
