A chart of top 100 domain sales of the first half of 2014 was published. Domain MI.com tops the chart, it was sold in April of this year for 3 million 600 thousand dollars. It is followed by Whisky.com – 3 million 100 thousand, the third most expensive domain so far - Sex.xxx – was sold for 3 million even.
The leaders of the chart are as expected domains of .COM zone, domain names in this zone were sold for the highest prices. However, it is worth mentioning that there is a considerate amount of domain sales of Chinese national domain .CN. Also one of the new gTLDs appeared on the chart. Domain Luxury.estate, was sold for $50 thousand, and holds 72nd place.
A separate chart was made for national domains. Chinese zone .CN expectedly leads. Game.cn, Wan.cn and LB.cn ($512307, $247830 and $176000 respectively) are in the top 3. German, British and Canadian domains are also well represented in the chart. Russian domains haven’t made it to any of the top 100 charts.
“Sales of this extend are very rare for national domains – in the general chart apart from the Chinese domain, there are only three or so deals presented that are registered in national domain zones. Interest shown in domain names in .CN domain can be explained: Internet-economy of this country is developing very rapidly, a high price for a domain name is an evidence that investors are willing to put a lot of money in this industry. I believe, that Cyrillic domain .РФ has fairly good prospects of making the chart: function of a Cyrillic email in the near future will stimulate the development of the domain and a fight for “beautiful” domain names registered in the first days of its functioning will begin in the secondary market”, said about the chart Marina Nikerova, senior deputy director at Technical Center of Internet.
